Geelong waterfront renovation. urban design studio
07 / 2016
This intensive studio was about exploring design initiatives for the redesign of the foreshore area in front of and adjacent to Deakin University’s Waterfront Campus; with emphasis on establishing design ‘connections’ back into the City of Geelong.

In our project we pretend to make the people feel with their 5 senses, It’s a reconnection with the beginnings of this land and also with themselves. We explore the aboriginal art patrons, making a connection with their ancestral sounds and their instruments.

We made a space for people to be engaged with natural elements and to use all of their senses to live an intense moment. We are trying to connect the contemporary culture with the Australian Milenial culture, combining organic forms from the aboriginals with the straight lines from the actual city. Taking advantage from the nature, and finding the weaknesses as a strength; The water of the future floodings would be canals that give vitality to the city, the trees would give us shelter, the wind that make us hide in the buildings would make the space “sing”.

And as the water flows from the blue spines, the people would flow too. Finding in the end that the space is calling them, it’s singing! Getting attracted to feel the vibrations of the heart of the waterfront, our aboriginal organ inspired on the Tinjeridoo ancestral instrument.
